When Banality Meet Bureaucracy

For those uninterested in the banality lurking below the fold, here is some art by Jefuty.

I got a letter from the VA indicating that my registration status at ODU had changed. This was news to me. So when I went to the college today I detoured on over to the Office of Student Outreach and asked for my caseworker. She was out. However, the dean came out of her office and looked up my case.

I'd been withdrawn from the college on the 15th.
Huh.
Well, the chances of getting a waiver were low given how much time I'd missed during surgery but it still annoys. While we were discussing my next step my caseworker arrived, stepped into her office and handed me my all my paperwork to take over to the Office of Finance in order to begin the arduous process of getting my money back (and cancelling what I still owe). This "arduous process" turned out not to be as involved as I feared consisting as it did of "Sign here please."
That was it.
The Dean of Finance explained that all my paperwork was in order and that I'd been approved by OoSO, had a legitimate medical situation. She also mentioned that they had just called to let her know that they hadn't sent me notification so my arrival was, in fact, timely. Thus, if I had any locks put on my account in the coming weeks, I was to call her and she'd resolve the issue. The appeal should be fully processed within a month.

At least I don't have to pay nearly six thousand dollars for a semester I did not finish.
All the times I've had to drop, I've never gotten a full refund before thus this news takes a bit of the bite off the dead hollow realization that I won't graduate in two months.

Tomorrow, I have an afternoon appointment with my advisor for the last time...again.

I arrived home to find another letter from the VA...which had arrived after they had sent a letter to let me know that they knew before I did that the school had withdrawn me for the semester. The envelope contained a tuition assistance check. It seems that I was approved for education beneff....oh wait this is a trap.

Anyway, I just got off the phone after resolving that.
