Banality Below Fold

As compensation, Here is something pleasant:

(Cute Girl in Coversomes Goes Here)

Ah. One of THOSE days.

As stated in an earlier post, my van has no headlights.
So today, I decided to take advantage of a break in the rain and do some poking about with the voltmeter.

There's a short somwhere between the switch and the headlights. The running lights turn on just fine, but the radio lights go dim.

With that in mind I decided to take advantage of the daylight and do some shopping. First stop was he gas station/general store where I fill the water cooler jugs.

Because I am a poor prepper, I had let this slide a bit and had 5 jugs to fill.

I placed the 5 emtys in the recycle rack and lugged 5 5 gallon jugs to the counter, wheezed for a moment and swiped my card.

..which was declined.

So I swiped my credit card,

...which was declined.

Now, I had just gotten paid.

So I checked the ATM and all my accounts are empty.

(Appropriately distraught reaction image goes here.)

I calmly hefted the jugs back to the rack, retrieved the empty jugs, apologized to the clerk and went on my way.

I immediately called the Visa help line on the card and received an error message that the number is out of service. I called the credit union and got not so much as an answering machine. I called an alternate account service number and was informed it too was was no longer in service.

The credit union's website is up, but I can't log in.

I'm almost out of gas, my van has no headlights and my checking and savings accounts are empty.

Also. My blog has lost the ability to load images.

The week is off to an interesting start.

1 The accounts are empty; the phones are disconnected; the website is no longer functional.

That is horrifying to even consider.

I'm praying that there's a perfectly rational; non-illegal, non end-times explanation for what's going on.

4 Thor apparently.

It appears that the Credit Union was struck by lightning. There are other issues as none of the local branches had phone service as late as yesterday because Verizon has rolled a critical failure on their "keep the phone lines running during weather" skillroll. (It's rained for over a week here.)

They have a backup server of course but it way out west and chose this moment to be down...I assume fires are involved though that is speculation on my part.

When I went into the main branch branch. I got them to do a withdrawal history on my account. Everything seemed copacetic when I left as the end of the month flurry of auto-draft bills had, apparently, been made, but I just got an angry alert from my to insurance company to the effect that this is not the case.

I'll be spending some time on the phone this afternoon.

Actually I thought I'd updated the post yesterday, but i just realized that I'd merely published (this time successfully) the original version when I got in.

5 I was speculating that if they have a centralised system and computerised phones, this is exactly what would happen if the network went down - a core router failure or something.  The public website could well be hosted separately, but then it couldn't link to the back-end server for customer logins.

Didn't think about angry thunder gods.  Need to update my DR plans.
