What I Learned this Evening on Crunchyroll

It's the school festival episode of Stella [REDACTED] Club C Cubed and I learned all sorts of stuff today.

The survival club is out of money. They're going to be hard pressed to pay the entry fee to get into a much anticipated '24 hour tournament'. They decide to go for broke and try to raise enough money at the festival.

I learned a new Japanese word.
In Japan a commercial shooting stall with electric target retriever is called a "massine'.

It may SOUND like they're saying 'machine' but it's a brand new and distinct word meaning 'shooting stall with electric target retriever'. I know this because the subtitle-ers spell it that way. Every. Single. Time.

See? They learned something too.

I have serious doubts that 'learning' that has made me any wiser but I learned some other things as well. For those that have seen the episode, here's what I learned...
I learned that like most invasive species, American crawdads in Japan are an ecological nightmare.
Or perhaps this one's just demonic.

I Learned that Yuna Yamato's middleschool experience was even suckier than we thought. She tried, despite her fears, to come out of her shell, and was cruelly knocked back in.

I learned that the two strapping young gentlemen with the glitter dispensers are named Aira and Daishichi. Both are member of a nearby schools Singing Dancing and Extreme Opera Club. Daishichi is the president and Aira is Karila's twin brother (younger twin...she's quite specific about that). Their club also plays survival games  (which I suppose is why it's Extreme opera). They're rivals but sufficiently sporting to help the Stella team try to raise money to get into the 24 hour tournament

I learned that all those years working at Tamoko Market facillitated Honoka blossoming into into a really shrewd, nay mercenary businesswoman, fully prepared to sacrifice her teammates dignity in a wet T-shirt paper tanktop duel. (In other words... Gainax)

I learned that a choker is very useful for concealing ones Adams apple. I consider the personal utility of this knowledge quite low.

I learned that even in WestWorld Daishichi is a convincing trap and I THINK I learned that both Sonora and Kirishima were drawn into Yamato's little "Moment".

Certainly Sonora seems concerned about wherever Yamato went.

Finally, I learned that water, clumsiness and misplaced entemophobia can cruelly dash ones dreams....

1 ...and somehow, your lessons ended up sending me here. I'm not sure how that worked. Something to do with massine ~ 真っ芯, I suspect.

2 Obviously I am a poor teacher.

In my defense I am distracted by my pondering of what Extreme Opera is. After seeing Dasichi's skillset, I keep having visions of them running through the forest weilding paintball guns with Daisichi portaying Brunhilde while Sigfried, portrayed by Aiara, shouts "Kill da Waaaabit!.

I am unable to unsee or unhear that.

3 Maybe you can use the word "massine" in your next Japanese class to impress your instructor with your large vocabulary...

4 Somewhere on Youtube I saw a clip of what I guess is supposed to be a Japanese game show that involved spraying water on some women who were dressed--if you can call it that--only in toilet paper wrapped around their torsoes, so to be fair to Gainax, it's not as if they're making that up out of whole paper.
