The Message

The Message behind Stella Women's Acadamy High School Division...I'm sorry...where was I?
Oh yes. I think I've figured out the theme behind this show.

I could be a bit off there, but there's a better than even case to be made for that theory at this point.

This was painful to watch.

We do get a bit of insight into Haruns's character. I had really thought that Haruna was tweaking Yura and drawing her in to hurt Sonora. That does not appear to be the case. She's hard driving and her whole team is a bit anal, but when they do loose, they display fine sportsmanship. Haruna does look after her people and is not so focused on winning that she won't drop the game to help a teammate with an injury.

Yura, well..she goes to train with Haruna's team and although she's gotten really good...she's developed such tunnel vision and callousness that even Haruna can't stomach her.

There's a bit of cultural dissonance here. Haruna, has very much the proper  Japanese outlook. She's doing everything for her group and is put off by Yura's need for complements.

I mentioned before that this is an inversion of a shonen show and I think that is correct. Yura is letting nothing stand in the way of her goal of excellence but, having lost the perspective of WHY she set the goal, and completely ignoring those around her, she achieves her stated goal but finds that her victory tastes like ashes.

This was a really grim episode, right down to the colors. However, the show started out as a study in recognizing ones faults and striving to fix them. Now Yura has quite overshot that goal.  It's easy to damn her, but she's young, she's making mistakes and she's learning about balance..I'm thinking (hoping)  that this is a show about redemption. There are two or three episodes to go so I'll stick with it to see where this goes. It probably be quite interesting.
Fun is rather less likely.

1 Could be worse. At least they didn't animate and broadcast the same episode 8 times.
