Signs and Portents
Laughing Wolf has a short post touching on several worrisome recent developments most of which are not getting a lot of attention, and the attention that is being given misses the forest for the trees.
Then, throw in the narco boat taken out on its way here. Why did it have 11 on board, when normal crew is 2-3 max? Why those particular people? Who were they/what were they? Very interesting given that there are already thousands of potential terrorists here thanks to the Biden Regency. Suspecting that there is much more to this story.
There has been a worrying trend in deliberate critical infrastructure disruptions over the last few years. Some of this is asshats larping... but there is a definite pattern and indications of impressive resources behind a lot of them.
Then there is the direct action nihilism of things like the Pacific Palisades fire.
Was the asshole who started those fires acting on impulse, or acting on a groups premeditated plan?
Lots of people hate us. Lots of foreign entities hate us. But many of us hate us as well, and the idea of making mischief, especially if the victims are folks who likely voted for those they despise, is appealing to a certain group of our own citizenry, as much or more than it is to the governments, crime syndicates, religious fanatics, and psychopaths who wish our nation harm.
The enemies are at the gate, but the call is coming from inside the house.

Huh....
Well I've been working on this well over an hour and I cannot get my streaming software to work, except in safe mode. It just locks up and flickers.
I had this issue last month, but thought I'd resolved it.
Anyway, no stream tonight. I'm going to be bugfixing all evening.

80 years Ago Today:
On this day, 80 years ago, we won a war that had been forced on us nearly four years previously.
Many of our own died bringing about a just and honorable peace. Today we should revere their memories as we should those who were able to stand amongst the victors..
There are those who think we should be ashamed of this great accomplishment. Today we should make fun of those people and remind them that they breathe easy and can afford their luxury beliefs because braver souls than they stepped up all those years ago.
There have been wars these last 80 years, some stupid, some shamefully unnecessary, but nothing like the bloodletting and atrocities that 1939-1945 saw has come to pass in that time.
And for that, we should be truly grateful to those who so convincingly won that terrible war with weapons and methods so dreadful that even today those who would unleash such wickedness upon the world are forced to pause and reflect.

Blogmatters:
I still cannot post images, except via cut and paste. This is slightly awkward with regard to formatting and does NOT work at all for animated .gifs. However, such first world problems aside, the issue with loosing posts has been largely fixed. The last 5 posts published on the first try.
The big arrestor switch on posting has not been technical, but rather a sense of existential dread I get looking at current events and not being certain of what they mean, but having a degree in History that does not foment optimism. Things are actually not that bad on the face of it and I have much reason for optimism, but there is a palpable unease as if watching towering columns of smoke grow closer and only vaguely understanding what they portend. I've been working on THAT particular post for a month, but it is currently in a state of being absolute poop.
In other news, my schedule is stabilizing. I've been trying to keep to a consistent streaming schedule since the streaming channel is now making me enough money.....to....uh....go out to eat at a nice restaurant once every 2 or 3 months.
I just spent 2000 dollars on car repairs and still have a few medical bills to pay off, so my plan to retire at the end of this month is not going to happen. My current tentative retirement date is 1/1/26. Which, if it comes to fruition, will be a nice birthday present.
About the only thing I want for is some non-video-game entertainment. Most of what I read is non-fiction, but if anyone knows of any particularly good anime, or such that have come out since Frieren, please post them in the comments.

Streaming Schedule: NOW WITH TWO WEEKS OF DERP!
This will be a short week as I'll be leaving the curry mine for a bit to.....um.....get some centrifugal spice separators.
That is my story. And I am sticking to it.
There will be two Zenless Zone Zero streams this week to compensate for the fact there will be none next week. Tuesday we will make another attempt to finish Disgaea: Hour of Darkness and Wednesday we'll be continuing the current event in Genshin Impact. Thursday's Zomboid community stream is up in the air pending resolution of some technical issues and if that goes forward, the next stream will be on Tuesday the 12th, when we will continue trying to move forward in Final Fantasy 14. Next Wednesday's schedule depends on a few variables, but we'll have a Zomboid community stream next Thursday, and next Friday we'll have a real treat, as we watch and discuss an amazing silent film from 1925 (Grass) in a collaboration with Hyasynth Live! (then stick around for the post movie Genshin Party).

Rudyard Lynch presents a very good, well researched overview of the tensions on the subcontinent that flared up a few months ago. He goes into considerably greater detail than I did when I mentioned it back when it was happening. This is a topic that has had me concerned for a while and, while I had made comparisons to the situation and the first World War, Rudyard brings demographic data and a cultural/historical understanding that point out that the parallels are far from superficial. As a bonus he may help affirm that your transcendental fears are not misplaced. One thing he does NOT focus on is the fact that Pakistan's focus on tactical weapons for battlefield use potentially have a lower threshold for use and are sells secure from the terrorist cells that are endemic to the nation.

Musical Interlude (and an Invitation)
Music: Amaranthe's Digital World Video: a selection of ZZZ Cut Scenes.
Zenless Zone Zero is an astonishingly well written game and despite all the issues that are inherent to the Gacha model, it is quite satisfying.
It's VERY Free To Play friendly (I have yet to spend a cent after one year). The story itself is weird and as mentioned here, despite the Xianxia elements, it scores surprisingly high on Moh's Scale of Sci-Fi Hardness, (4-4.5 is the number I keep coming up with...and that is SO strange*).
I started streaming this game as a temporary filler and was frankly put off at first by the very unconventional mechanics. However the story was interesting and it has grown on me. While lacking the gorgeous scenery and astounding open world of Genshin, it is every bit as well written as Genshin Impact and the more urban environs are interesting in their own right.
The combat playstyle is reminiscent of the arcade fighting games of long ago with every character having a specific set of keystrokes to maximize their ability in addition to the usual controls.
I do recommend it.
