Bastards!
I have grown to have a very dim view of Greenpeace over the years, but this is an exceptionally vile bit of spoiled, trustfunder, narcissism, even for them.
Forget the lawyers. Send the French frogmen after them.

And what was even the point? "We could have Photoshopped this ad in
five minutes, but instead we decided to do it physically, run up our expense account, and do unfixable damage to an ancient indigenous artistic/religious feat of engineering"?

It was actually better than I expected. When I first heard about the damage, I was expecting to see tire tracks across The Monkey or something like that.
Still horrible, though.

Oddly, this is the first time I have see a photo of that hummingbird figure with a human nearby. For some reason I always imagined the figures were much larger...

I'm gonna be the contrarian here. Got no use for Greenpeace and it's a dumb publicity stunt, sure.
That said, seriously, -footprints-? If the surface is bare rock, assuming the Greenpeace guys weren't ramming in pitons to hold down their banners, there just ain't gonna be any wear. If it's dirt, the idea that footprints would last more than a few weeks (or less depending on weather) is just silly.
Mother Nature ain't -that- fragile!

Avatar - yes, seriously, footprints. The only reason the Nazca Lines have lasted as long as they have is that there is no weather there - no rain, almost no wind, and not even much temperature variation. The lines themselves are only a few inches deep.

Someone showed a link to a local (?) newspaper showing after pictures. They left marks all over the place that are clearly visible and basically, since they scoured away the thin dark layer over the lighter under layer, are never going to go away. It's like making tracks in snow, except that the evidence isn't going to vanish in a season.
Ah, here we go.

Oops, forgot to add: in the first picture, look at the red area: all the marks there were created by these idiots.

I don't know if have places that are so fragile in U.S.. At some point, I was leaving tracks in Blackrock and watching how long it takes Google Maps to see them. They had to be reviewed every other year, or else rains would gradually erase them.
Another odd place like that is Botswana - the original area of Aloe. It's a plant that can live almost without water, but it withers really easily and any frost is fatal for it.

"This is extremely dangerous, with tensions as high as they are now. We may not live through these days:.....
Well that's encouraging.
As a response to the continuing violations of the INF treaty by Russia, the US is considering redeploying the old Gryphon nuclear missiles to Europe. The Gryphon was just the USAF's name for the Tomahawk launched from a truck rather than a ship (it also had a different nuclear warhead). Thus, although all of the Gryphon's were destroyed in accordance with the INF treaty (save for a few in museums) fitting some Tomahawks with the W-80s still in the active stockpile would be a quick, easy response in kind.
Deploying nuclear missiles to Europe would cause some concern, but might not actually be particularly destabilizing. The Gryphon is useless against moving targets and, in any event, anything it could hit could be hit my other US, UK, or French nukes. It would seem that such a deployment ought to be less of a concern than the 70 to 90 B-61 bombs we still store under joint control with Turkey.
"Woah.Wait. Back up! Please clarify that last bit."
Yes. The Turkey that's being run by that fellow Ergodan still has joint custody of over 50 US nukes.
It's unclear why anybody thinks that this is a good idea.

The clock is ticking for Putin; if things continue as they are, he's going to be defeated by a coalition of Alberta, North Dakota, and Western Australia.
I don't know how this is going to play out. He's not crazy, but he's playing a zero-sum game, and that is dangerous in itself.

Oh, absolutely. Self-serving as the Saudis' moves are, they certainly hurt Putin's expansionist goals, where Obama has done, at best, nothing at all.
I really wish the best for the Russian people; they have been poorly served by their leaders for so much of their history.

Possible Achievements
...in the game Side Effects Follies
Common side effects of intravenous sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim use include sun sensitivity, itching, head pain, rash and loss of appetite. Other possible side effects of oral sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim use that are considered rare include abdominal or stomach pain, black tarry stools, blistering, peeling or loosening of skin, chest pain, chills, cough or hoarseness, dark urine, diarrhea, dizziness, fever, tiredness or weakness.Additional side effects associated with the oral form of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim are shortness of breath, changes in skin color, vomiting of blood, joint or muscle pain, loss of appetite, nausea, rash and wheezing, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Well...my skin didn't loosen or change color and I don't THINK there was blood in my vomit* so I did not get them all. Despite coming so very close to a perfect streak on the first go, I don't think I'll be continuing this as I found playability and enjoyment to be rather low.
However, the doctor assures me that I'm unlikely to die so I'll take that as a victory and move on.

I'd heard that sulfa drugs historically make some people itch, but I didn't really think we were still using sulfa drugs; and I definitely didn't know about all the rest.
When you're sick as a dog, it's a good time to listen to audiobooks. If you doze off in the middle, it's no big deal. My philosophy about videos during times of sickness is similar.

Unexpectedly....
...I got a brief respite from Christmas Chaos at work.
On the one hand I have the day off. On the other hand the circumstances are sub-optimal.
I suddenly became sick at work...very sick. I actually left work, and went home. However, I became so ill on the way home that I took a detour that allowed for this poorly aimed homage to the age of the selfie. It looks like I got a noravirus. I did also get an antibiotic for the sinus infection that has been vexing me for weeks. I'm home now and am tentatively testing solid food. I'm also ingesting fluids in a less problematic way. /spoiler]
But enough of such things, here are some Santagirls in snow

Note that although a tiny bit of pulled pork shoulder cooked in the can has been visible over the last few days, I've observed a truly vast number of such comments have been caught by Pixy's improved filters. Of course, most don't see what gets stopped, so be aware that Pixy is slaying the villains for us with considerable verve.
This is How Republics Die
Look, I'm a member of the Whitebread Rap Haters Club. I find most of the genre actively repulsive. But you know what? A lot of people probably feel that way about classical music, Finnish heavy metal and/or bagpipes.
So, as a member of the WBRHC, let me be clear about my total, visceral, emphatic and unreserved denouncement of this fascistic nonsense.
Short version: A rapper is being charged with a felony under a California law that criminalizes the "promotion" of gang-bangery.
It should be noted that this is an aggravated case....
"We're not just talking about an album of anything, of love songs," Campagna reportedly told the judge in court. "There is a revolver with bullets"on the album cover, he noted.
Well...I'm glad we had the Douchenugget Asshatt to clarify that for us!
In any event, we can at least take some comfort in the fact that this vile, counterconstitutional, assinine nonsense can't actually involve anything more than a slap on the wrist, right? This is America after all.
Duncan is currently in county jail in lieu of $1 million bail, with his trial reportedly set to begin December 4. If convicted, he faces 25-years-to-life in prison.
73 Years
...have passed since a quiet December morning in paradise was disrupted by the din of 183 planes. They were the first wave of an attack that would turn Battleship Row into an abattoir.
One of the Battleships, U.S.S. Arizona, remains today on the harbor bottom as a memorial to those that died on that terrible day, which unleashed such fury upon the Pacific. Every year on this date, survivors of that ship's last terrible moments have met to reminisce.
RWBY Soundtrack Volume 2
Well, it's been out for a week on iTunes but Amazon is still not carrying it (Though I gather that Amazon Canada is) curiously, as I type this, it is not available at the Rooster Teeth store either.
This album is pretty decent, RWBY has always had a good score and getting the full versions of the vocal tracks is nice. Like the first volume, the vocal tracks have a sort of retro feel to them, often giving off an 80's vibe, with disco and K-pop influences. There are a couple of peculiar Euro-dance remixes and at one point a wild rapper appears unexpectedly (though less jarringly than on the first album). Possibly the strangest track is an exuberantly odd multi-genre piece called "Boop!" Like the first album's "Wings" it focuses on some character development that was not fully explored in the show proper. No points for guessing who it concerns.
With 23 tracks, the album is about half BGM.
In order to give Rooster Teeth 10 dollars of my money, I had to use iTunes, which I hadn't used in well over a year. In the process of reactivating my membership Apple helpfully reminded me of one of several reasons I shy away from their media store....
