The Last Couple of Days

(OK not quite as combustible as all that.)
So...

Did you know that in addition to a federally mandated maximum withdrawal limit of 1000 dollars, there is a federally mandated limit of 6 withdrawals from savings a month?

I didn't. It never came up until this week.

Did you know that overdraft protection counts as a withdrawal?
I didn't.

And really; how relevant could that information be? How often is overdraft protection even going to be come up if one knows how much one has in checking...seriously.

Hey. By the by, did you know that a restaurant can wait up to a week and a half to actually process your 80 dollar bill, thereby hitting you completely out of left field when you least expect it and have NO IDEA what the charge is for?

I didn't!

Did you know that when this happens that inquiring about why one's card isn't working and being told about a mysterious 80 odd dollar charge mixed with a bit of confusion will get your CREDIT CARD (a different card) locked out of an abundance of caution?

Did you know that when one trips this threshold, all that is actually noted on one's online banking profile is a cryptic error code that's non-expository and easily missed?

Did you know that there's no remedy for this except to go down to the bank way out in Suffolk (OK that particular detail may be situation specific).

Well, I know now and you do too, because while I can't be an example to any of you, I can be a horrible horrible warning!

Brickmuppet Blog: painful life lessons from the comfort and safety of your computer chair.

In other news, the dental hygienist at the dentist's office was out and was being covered by a novice radiologist who used some odd sized, extra large gagatronic film strips for x-raying my teeth...and seems to have gleaned all the wrong lessons from Little Shop of Horrors.

On the other hand, it's Friday.

1 Either you mean "with your card", or you have a very different kind of savings account than I do. To pay for my recent trip to Japan, I moved over five grand from my savings to checking in two transactions about a week apart. I even ordered two grand worth of yen directly from my savings account and had it shipped to the house ("adult signature required").

2 You can move larger amounts between accounts at the same bank, though not if you've tripped Regulation D. I'm pretty sure the thousand dollar limit just counts for cash.

3 Reading that link and others (this one has a list that includes a bank with a $2,500/day ATM limit), it still sounds like the only federal limit is the 6 non-(ATM or in-person) withdrawals/month.

4 Well, i spent an hour trying to find a source for the fact that I knew to be true but that is contradicted by your link and my own inquiry.

So, I'm going to leave this dubiously endowed buff burger bunny here and call it a night.
