Tests Completed

YAY! IT'S KIDNEY STONES!

Happy dance.
Weeks of tests have, finally, as of today, ruled out cancer.
It seems that the direct problem is an infection that lives in the kidney stones, which protect said infection from antibiotics. The bug then re-emerges when I'm really worn down. Yeah, kidney stones are a drag, but given that they initially thought it was cancer I'm gonna put this one in the "win" column.

Also: Cystoscopes are an atrocity.

2 Well, that's a lot better than the alternative. Hopefully it'll be something they can fix now that they know what they're dealing with?

3 Yay! twice over and again on Sundays!

There's a thing they can do with ultrasound which will break up kidney stones so that they're easier to pass. Are they going to do that to you?

By the way, congratulations on the not-as-bad-as-it-could-be news.

5 I can say that the ultrasound trick doesn't work for everybody.  They couldn't do it for me, for example.

6 Celebrating kidney stones just seems wrong.  But hurray for no cancer!

If ultrasound isn't an option, they can dissolve the stones slowly with drugs. That's what they did with mine. It took many weeks to get rid of a bullet-sized stone (and a stent in my ureter while it was happening), but it worked.

Heh. Never thought I'ld hear anyone going "Yay" for kidney stones. Just shows what's possible under the right circumstances.
