I'm a Subscribestar member, so I can theoretically sync both channels, but the whole affair seems to revolve around crypto currencies. Now I am assured by all the smartest people in the room that cryptocurrencies* are the only secure thing in this uncertain age and only statists and luddites show skepticism towards them. Sadly, I'm not particularly smart and I'm a history major which has left me with an irrational fear of tulips.
There is a Pay-Pal option, but Pay-Pal has been in the demonetization business of late.
Perhaps more troubling is the fact that at the bottom of the above linked page, SubscribeStar has an address that is not in Russia, but on Airstrip One. And...the fact that this is worrisome; the notion that Jolly Old England is not a step up from Russia regarding freedom of speech (and arguably the opposite) is a measure of how crazy the times we live in are.
But I digress...
Does anyone have any insights into the security and effectiveness of, say Bit-Backer, CoinPayments and/or similar services?
*My spell-check doesn't like either of those spellings.

I have spent the last few months trying to actively use bitcoin, and have yet to find a way to do it that doesn't make me want to run screaming from the service I'm contemplating and actively considering warning all my friends and family that the service is clearly a fraud.

Imminent death of cryptocurrency predicted: the Coinstar machines installed in all the grocery stores I frequent now have big signs saying turn your spare change into bitcoin. Seriously, it's tulips all the way down.

From what I have read (no first-hand experience), it would be best to use cryptocurrency only as a secure means of transferring funds, and to convert it to your local government-backed currency as soon as possible.

Holding Pattern
Tuesday I went to school to make arrangements for re-enrolling in my final class. I checked my Student E-mail to see if my advisor was available for consultation. It turns out that she has left the country and won't be back for over a month but she insisted that rather than signing up for the current session that I "DON'T DO ANYTHING!" She said that she's pretty sure that I'm good to graduate, but that the process of applying for another class involves removing my graduation application. I also noted that my graduation worksheet"Degree Works" says that my credits requirement has not been met; that I have 'only' 123 out of a needed 120 credits.
Well. That's odd.
So... I'm going to hold tight while the chocolate ration is adjusted.
Below the fold is the a copy/paste of what I typed in the two fields of the senior survey I was asked to complete last week.
Below this text is a good visual representation of how not to stagger ladders for safety.
I'd LIKE to transition my comics database to its SQL program from my ancient Mac and FileMaker, but the learning curve is really steep, and I don't know where to start.

It's not so much that the learning curve is steep, as that OpenOffice and LibreOffice have cargo-cult documentation that's basically impenetrable. Also, FileMaker isn't really hip to the idea of exporting data to other DBs. :-)

Well, the data I've got is basically a flat file. And that's actually fine, but I know the 1995 vintage PowerMac 8600 it's running on won't last forever. And eventually I'd like to add some data about box storage.
I may not need all the advanced query stuff that SQL is capable of, but making things relational by publisher and title would help organize stuff. But yeah, the documentation seems to be all about that SQL power query crap, and not so much about creating the underlying database.

As there is likely little interest in the banality that lurks below the fold, we've decided to provide, as a service to you, gentle reader, a helpful demonstration of how to deal with some of those pesky manticore issues that may crop up from time to time.

I loved it.
It was even better than Cats!
I am going to see it again and again.
Note that this is NOT a stand-alone film as it is a direct sequel to Infinity War, which itself is a sequel to several different films, but if you've been following the long serial that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then this film is an absolute triumph and is as close to sublime as we are likely to ever see from Hollywood.
Poor Owen
Cute girls doing cute things in a magical university set in a sort of D&D world. Mysteria Friends is beautifully drawn, pleasant enough and I could look at Grea (the half-dragon girl) all day. Having just completed its run, the show looks to be 10 X 15 minute episodes so its not a major investment of time and it seems promising.
UPDATE: That is the most egregiously elaborate special collections area of a library ever. Also: Molting's cool!

The ones to feel sorry for are their parents, who are unlikely to ever see grandkids unless Anne comes up with a Very Special Spell.

2 Just starting out, I'm getting a slightly different vibe from this than everyone else seems to...
The
two times that PrincessAnne mentions that Grea is a Dragon-Born princess
Grea reacts...oddly...indicating that one of those two things might not
quite be true, and I suspect it's not the half dragon bit. Grea is
quite vague regarding her parentage, except to say that she has a human
and a dragon parent. Grea also seems quite lonely, perhaps a bit
autistic and very grateful for a friend. I get the distinct impression
that these two are, at least at the beginning, having different
conversations when talking with one another.

For more fun, here's the trailer from the original, cancelled attempt at this series five years ago. Apparently, sometime in the interim, they decided not to make it explicitly based on their Rage of Bahamut characters, but abstract it so it can be vaguely canon for all of their appearances.

Wait.
What series was that trailer for? 'cause THAT'S what I thought I was gonna be getting here.
I understand there was some scandal with the first iteration as they fired the entire production staff.
OK. Having watched the whole thing, I am quite impressed with its production values.
Never has so much skill been utilized to atmospherically say almost nothing.
I stand by my initial interpretation. Especially after the side-story about the love potion, I'm pretty sure that the two main characters are not on the same wavelength. I get the impression that Gear is just really hesitant for any number of reasons to say no to the princess's announcement .
I see their senior year being very much like Misaka and Kuroko...if Misaka had social anxiety issues.

Algorithms...
As I catch up on stuff not pertaining to school, I note that over the last year or so, I've absentmindedly ended up following 261 artists on Pixiv. This is a result mainly of irresponsible use of the FOLLOW button. I also support 4 artists via Pixiv Fanbox. The focus of these sites range from cute animations to landscapes to city-scapes to historical inaccuracies to first person analysis of the male gaze. You know what exactly none of these 261 sites are focused on? Boys Love.
Now, I do not begrudge the aficionados of such works their preferred content, and I think that its great that Pixiv caters to all demographics in need of...visual reference material for work and school, so this would not normally be an issue. However, I do wonder, why, with 261 bishie-free data points that their algorithm keeps sending me this in my Things I'll Probably Like box.
Shorter version: I really need to cull the number of artists I'm following. Also I'm being stalked by a gay Japanese A.I.

I guarantee that you did 500,000% better on that test than most of us would. However you did.
(Every time I get proud of myself, I try to get katakana and hiragana into my permanent memory. I have tried everything, and it still will not stick for more than a few letters. I had better luck memorizing the Hunter x Hunter font!)
(So I am proud I have about ten kanji down, and amazed that you could take a while test like that.)
(I can read and write Cyrillic cursive, for goodness' sake! Egyptian hieroglyph syllabaries are not that bad, even if I cannot draw them.... What is my functional illiteracy in Japanese about?)
(So yeah, that is the kind of course where a C may not be bad, and curve grading would be appropriate.)

I'm supposed to have, at the end of this class, a vocabulary of about 900 kanji. In actuality, I can probably read less than 100 without resorting to a dictionary. I still have trouble with some Katakana from time to time. This has been really humbling.

Not Dead Yet
While I did good on one of my classes, my Kanji exam is on Monday and will determine if I utterly faceplant that class. I'll continue to be scarce until at least then.
Here's something to unnerve and depress you until then.
Bad opening metaphors signal bad times....
I will say that I don't think that we're likely to legislate our way out of this, in part because compelling speech seems to be the exact opposite of a solution.
This warrants thought, but all thought here is currently being otherwise allocated.

Well, if you want something wholesome about not being able to study, there's "Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai", Poor kid who works hard to be a solid B student is offered a complete university scholarship if he takes on tutoring the two smartest girls in the school. But the Literature genius wants to learn science but doesn't grok math, and the science and math genius has serious problems understanding literature, and wants to understand people and go into psychology.
If you want something not so wholesome, "Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai", Daughter of a famous erotic writer, and who thus hates everything about love has to deal with a really ordinary guy who seems to like her.

I dropped both BokuBen and Quints (5T) mangas, but I stayed with BokuBen much longer, FWIW. Unfortunately, it goes nowhere. Don't want to watch either.
I'm enjoying both Senko-san and Bocchi (Hitoribocchi no Maru-maru Seikatsu).

If I went through what he went through, I'd be a douche too. Well, assuming I'm not one already. Though frankly, his attitude is beginning to drag on. I'd have quit whining and just gone off to another country to shag the racoon girl long since. But he's trapped by his sense of responsibility, and the respect of the people he helps, even as he's being a jerk about it.

Heh.
The S.P.Korolev segment prompts a couple of comments.
#1, it wasn't much of a miracle the he was released from Gulag. Well, it was a miracle that he lasted long enough to get released. When Stalin decided to start a ballistic missile program, word was sent out collect anyone who was anything in rockets.
#2, Korolev's death is not a mystery: he was killed by surgeons. He came in for a surgery to remove a colon tumor, but something went wrong, he stayed under anesthesia too long and died. Medical mistakes kill a lot of people. A friend of mine died after a heart attack in 2002. He was recuperating in a hospital in Sacramento, and apparently they screwed up his meds.

On the topic of the video itself though, I remember how someone told me, "you are like a god to me". That was shocking to say the least. If I look at people like S.P. Korolev, then my accomplishments are rather insignificant! But apparently some of my contemporaries were impressed, if only a little.

Oh, and one other thing! Did you notice that Steven's accomplishments happened when he was old and retired? He only shone brightly for a few years before he succumbed to a degenerative disease. But I'm sure he didn't plan on becoming one of the 4 horsemen of blogopocalipse when he was a little cog in the machine of Tektronix.

Running Silent
Coming up on the last week of school and am struggling to pass a kanji class and finish an unrelated research paper. Blogging will remain light for a week or so after which the long dry spell will end.
In the meantime here is a Canadian's take on everyone's favorite frog girl and gravititrix.
MHA's 'Froppy' and 'Urabity' as drawn by Canada's gift to the eyes, Sakimichan, who can also be found on ArtStation and Patreon and whose non-shrinkified stuff can also be bought here.
Which means these images won't continue going to waste in my flash drive.
In all seriousness, Biden is a formidable opponent, being a rather more folksy creep than the President. His base is very much the same as the President's, indeed many of Trumps supporters switched parties because the Dems abandoned the middle class. They are Biden's natural constituency.
In a battle of the creeps, Biden's above referenced lack of respect for personal space is being touted by many on the right as disqualifying. This analysis, to be charitable, represents a Brobdingnagian level of stupidity. Witness the fact that so many of us held our noses and voted for Pussygrabber McPottymouth over the Evita Peron von Pantsuit in the last election. Much is being made of the notion that today's inter-sectional Dems won't put up with him, but given the choice between placating their snowflakes and gaining power over the rest of us, one can be reasonably certain that the super-delegates will be as loyal to the Democrat's activists as they were in 2016.
I also suspect that the Ivy League Brahmans that run the Democrats are looking for a way to tamp down on the intersectionalists, who were, to the party leaders, useful weapons to be aimed at political opponents and us plebeians, but being unaware of their actual purpose they have proved to be embarrassingly bad shots. If Biden gets the nomination, rest assured, inappropriate touching will no longer be a newsworthy line of inquiry.
Biden has no real support among the party activists, but he has a good shot at the nomination.
If he gets that, (a big "if" to be sure) then I think he stands a very good chance of winning the general election.
So hang onto your hats.
"And order your noseplugs now! The election's only 19 months away!"
NOTE: Actual victims of bad touching have been replaced with 2-D girls to avoid unnecessarily embarrassment.
All 2-D girls are from Love Live.
All 2-D girls are 18 years or older. Proof of age is on file in the pattern room of Brickmuppet labs. That is our story and we are sticking to it.

I believe Republicans are mainly emphasizing Biden's lack of respect for personal space to stir troubled waters on the Left, which, after all, is the home of #MeToo. Should Biden actually win the nomination, it will be dropped pretty quickly unless needed to counter attacks on Trump's own issues with personal space. After all, at least Trump had the decency to stick to adult women and didn't do it on national television and/or in front of foreign dignitaries (or worse to foreign dignitaries) like Biden.

Algorithms: They Take You To....Places
While trying to confirm a rumor that Sargon of Akkad had been arrested*, I blundered onto this. 59 minutes and six seconds later, I feel that I am now dumber than I have ever been.
It starts off innocently enough, with retarded claims about the precision of the geometry of the Giza Pyramids. Then our humble Gumby presenter starts name dropping Thoth. By 7:27 he's claiming that Jews are space aliens who were visiting Atlantis when things went pear shaped but that's not important or germane to THIS discussion because all our problems seem to stem from the Martian Patriarchy and the misconception that Satan is bad. Zecharia Sitchin, Edgar Casey, and Nostradamus have all been mentioned by 13:26. It goes on at an AMAZING pace explaining how the 12 dimensional properties of spacetime and the electromagnetic properties of ley lines are demonstrated and proven by the "hundredth monkey" phenomenon. The video goes on, laying out in excruciating and utterly contradictory detail a grand unified field theory of derp that (naturally enough) includes tantric inter-dimensional sex meditations.
So: What is the takeaway from all this?
The world is stupid and getting stupider.
I suspect that my use of the word "Akkad" in a search is what brought me to this surfeit of Fortean numbnuttery.
