Pacific Rim

I was promised Giant Robots fighting Monsters.

I was provided with giant robots fighting monsters.

As such my legitimate gripes are limited.

There were giant robots...fighting monsters....In a live action film with a budget.

Charlie Nunman does a perfectly decent job as the thoroughly conventional leading man but is somewhat outshone by the rest of the  cast with Idris Elba and Max Martini giving good performances as veteran monster hunters. Japanese A-Lister Rinko Kikuchi is the female lead. Burn Gorman and Charles Day play the obligatory mad scientists and Ron Perleman just sort of struts into the film and chews the scenery for a bit.

Oh, there are minor quibbles, they could have shaved 15 minutes off the film and used less shakeycam. I'd have liked to see one of the big fights in daylight too, but you know what? None of that is important really...because we had Giant Robots...fighting Kaiju Monsters in a live action film on the big screen!

....and how many times does one get to see THAT?

Anyway, as a summer popcorn flick I found it to be top notch.

1 My friend and I didn't have high-expectations when we went to see it this afternoon.  However, as the credits started to roll, we both agreed it was not just "not bad", it was down-right good!  If you like any anime piloted-robot shows, you'll find a lot to like in this film.  Heck, I think even SDB might like it...

2 Just got back this evening from an extremely satisfying movie experience.

And Rinko Kikuchi could be the new spokesmodel for the Boeing Dreamliner - Wrapped completely in carbon fiber and smokin' hot.

You build smokin' hot, carbon fiber-clad Asian women?  I am intrigued by your post, and would like to receive one of your catalogs...

6 It's a kit from Max Factory. Amazon JP has them.

7 Well, I've got the carbon fiber part down pat, but finding a good, reliable supplier for smokin' hot asian women has been... problematic.
