They're gonna do WHAT!?
A few years ago I lost my home and most of my belongings to Hurricane Ida, however as I had spent the majority of that years nights at my parents house I was not really displaced as such. You see, I'd been helping my folks take care of my grandmother and my father was having great difficulty getting around due to service related injuries.
Over the course of the next few years Mom had breast cancer (twice) and an additional related preventive surgery, two strokes and nearly died when medication nearly killed her. Dad had one, then the second hip replaced. Several of these events were concurrent with my grandmothers deteriorating condition. I missed a lot of work and had to drop multiple semesters at college. About 14 months ago my grandmother had passed and everything else had stabilized with my parents preparing to move to North Carolina as soon as their unique fixer-upper of a sailboat was fully repaired. I was actually in the process of moving out then. But I dallied while dealing with my own issues.
Then came moms latest stroke and the revelation that she has an inoperable aneurysm in her brain that could go at any time...or never. Shortly thereafter Dad had a hernia, and mom had to have an operation to repair a broken foot. As they were both simultaneously incapacitated I dropped out of school over the summer and took a very light load over the fall. My folks are now fully functional and mobile, have been for months AND are moving to an area where they will be be amongst several ralatives including my brother.
School wise, I have a handful of classes left, mostly lower level courses I did not get transfer credit for. If # of credits was an issue I could graduate in the summer. However it looks like one class I need won't be offered 'till the fall or next spring, so until last week, I was looking at places walking distance from work or school.
Unfortunately, my parents, unbeknownst to me, saw UP...
...shortly after my Mom's aneurysm was diagnosed.
That sailboat, that my dad has been working to make seaworthy...Well, they've decided that short hops to Bermuda and the Bahamas are not sufficient. They are going to that other "B" word, Belize..in a 37 foot sailboat.
Dad is a salty dog (former Coast Guard and Merchant Marine) and has been planing this out for months, but I was completely unprepared for the sheer scale of what they are planning. They are going to go to their new home in NC by boat, via The Bahamas, The Gulf Coast, Honduras and Belize.
Assuming they do not encounter a waterspout like they did on their last trip to the Bahamas, nor pirates or some other mishap, they'll be gone three months...at least.
They leave in 1 and a half to 2 weeks.
I was...um...rather surprised by this turn of events.
Anyhoo, I am a bit concerned.
And I'm really mad a Pixar.
An example of why I am concerned:
For several days, earlier in the week, my dad was limping. When I asked about it he said he said he was stiff from working in the bilge. I was getting concerned because he was REALLY having a hard time getting up. Well, it turns out that, despite my admonition to let me help him lift heavy things, and despite my stopping by the boat frequently to offer assistance (which is almost never accepted) he had jumped onto the boat holding a 60 pound water pump, landed in a patch of snow and slipped, injuring his knee , back and head....To make matters worse, he did not take ME..but had taken Mom who had wanted to see how the boat was coming, so she got to see bloody snow in the cockpit. I only found this out because I recently walked in on my mother relating this horror story to my sister and imploring her not to tell me, because, you know I might worry, or get upset.
There was a spirited discussion that evening.

On a lighter note, they now have their revenge for your teen years, I guess.
