An Important Note
Tonight Ace of Spades will be doing a liveblog with open chat just like they do for presidential debates and presidential addresses to joint sessions of congress.
The occasion of course is to provide thoughtful discussion and real-time commentary on the ultimate product of thousands of years of human art, which will air on the Sy-Fy channel at 9:00 PM Eastern tonight...
A perfect metaphor for our age.
That should trump everything in the history of ever...
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!
As if today was not awesome enough, it's founders day at 7-11, which means free Slurpees from 11AM-7PM.
The Obama Administration has Negotiated For 15,000 Russian Troops for Crowd Control?
Actually...no.
I had missed the disquisitions on this diabolical development due to my having been away from the computer today.
...the Obama administration has requested 15,000 Russian troops who are
trained in disaster relief and ‘crowd functions’ to be pre-positioned to
respond to FEMA Region III during an unspecified ‘upcoming’ disaster.
FEMA Region III includes Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania,
Virginia and West Virginia. The report says it’s "important†to note
this region because it could imply that that the Obama administration
has lost confidence in its own military being able to secure the area
should it be called upon to do so.
So....any thoughts come immediately to mind?
"Oh God! This is TERRIBLE! Hide the chicken! Pack up the chicken!....Oh crap, fried chicken doesn't have enough shelf life. This means we'll have to start hoarding those canned chickens . "
Or...not.
Look...it's bunk...utter bunk.
R.S. McCain discovered that this weapons grade crazy was a headline in his recently launched news aggregation site, which left him with two possibilities.
Well, well — what’s up with that, indeed? The most obvious explanations would seem to be either:
• One of our writers has bought into a fringe conspiracy theory;
or
• It’s time to start stockpiling ammo and freeze-dried food, before the black helicopters show up to take us to FEMA camps.
Actually the chicken in a can is not freeze-dried so answer B need not result in an outcome QUITE as dire as he implies, but as McCain documents in a very long post B is not the correct answer.
By all means keep hoarding the canned chickens...'cause you might need them for Chantal....
...but there is no evidence that there are any Russian troops coming to do riot control in the US.
None...
Nada...
McCain now has to deal with the two implications of A. One of his contributors either bought a story that even as conspiracy theories go, is just bone crushingly stupid, or one of his contributors is a Moby. Of course the correct response is the same in either case.
Anyway, if you see this story crop up please debunk it.
A Catastrophic Spelling Mishap
Not long ago I was reading thread on a naval history forum that discussed a proposal by the German Navy to use their Biber midget submarines in the Mediterranean Sea as well as for local defense. Attacks were contemplated on Alexandria as well as some other North African harbors.
Unfortunately the thread initiator made an error which rather derailed the thread....
New HSOTD Series Announced
This is a spinoff, NOT a sequel and has a different cast. According to the ANN
article Daisuke Sato says that this series is backstory for the new
characters being introduced in the manga.
"In
another part of Tokyo, a few hours before the events in High School of
the Dead a group of girls enjoy their
high school graduation party late into the night. But when they decide to call on a
friend from another school (which being on the quarter system does not
graduate for 3 months) they discover that Tokyo is becoming the
epicenter of a worldwide nightmare!"
Well, winter 2013 is already looking good!
UPDATE: Oh my! The soundtrack is going to be by Shonen Knife, Aural Vampire, Nightwish and Caravan Palace!

Have they given you notice yet?

The warning letter came out a couple weeks ago - we should get the official furlough schedule next week. Unless they finagle some budge-juggling over the weekend, my office is looking at 20% reduction in workdays (and pay) from April 1st through the end of September.

So you're called to student council room...
A good chunk of the Tank club is there.
What runs through your mind? A: " Am I in trouble?"
B: "What is the midget up to THIS time?
C: "Are they finally going to let the guys join the neat clubs?"
D: "What in the HELL is that picture on the wall? Seriously?"
Preparing Students for the Coming Utopia
So today I had to update my passwords and re-sign all of my security agreements to retain access to the ODU computer system, access to which is required for most classes.
It included a training course.
The first bit is just normal IT security stuff and of no interest at all. However, the last part is mildly amusing for two reasons.
1: Privacy and Security don't mean what they think it does.
2: Remember, all students are required to know and comply with ODU's IT Security Related Standards with penalties for non-compliance being up-to and including expulsion.

Steven, it's the Stridsvagn 103, more commonly known as the S-Tank. It's actually classified as a main battle tank, as opposed to a tank destroyer.
It was basically a clever idea to reduce the overall height of a tank by removing the turret

Ah, the wikipedia article explains it. It didn't look like that gun could be moved at all, the way it attaches through the armor... I figured it was just a trick of the jpg... but the whole chassis tilts to change elevation. Neat.

I'm Hoarding JUSTICE!
While everyone else was denuding the Hostess displays of Twinkies I noticed a commodity that was ignored.
As we all know, villains are powerless before the real fruit filling of Hostess Fruit PiesTM. I'm now a prepared for the dark days ahead. A few more and I'll be able to fight crime.
