For those who might be wondering, I have received word via text that the reason that Wonderduck has gone silent is that he has has been without internet service for over three days. There is no indication of when it might be back as his provider is, apparently, up to no good.

I might be back. I might not be. To call the state of my current internet connection "sporadic" would be much too generous. But even that's better than "completely down."

I have a big exam
on Monday so the next two days will entail cramming and sleep (the latter being
a very important component of test preparation that I frequently forget).
In the meantime a quick
perusal of the interwebs reveals several bloggers who actually have taken
the time to provide content over the last several days.
Don has one of the two blogs
whose embeds are invisible to me on Epic, so I very nearly missed his latest post, which
I had initially taken to be a formatting error. That would have been tragic as
I would have missed this
gem, which shows that these kids today still have an appreciation of the
classics. (There is a side by side comparison here.)

The sad thing is that "Mannula Mea" actually scans to the theme song. Also, a "horse chestnut" is a large version of the regular chestnut, but a "pony keg" is a small keg.

Well, a Pony and a horse are not the same animal. A Pony is smaller than a horse, thus a Pony keg is smaller. (Young horses are not ponies, but Colts and Fillies. I'm not sure what young ponies are.)

Ponies and horses are both Equus ferus caballus. So are "miniature horses." The only difference is one of breed; and ponies are perfectly interfertile with horses. (Albeit your pony stallion would need a boost up in order to "cover" a full-sized mare, I guarantee that his doohickey would be perfectly capable of doing the covering.)
Donkeys and zebras are more distant relatives. Donkeys are fertile enough with horses and ponies to create mules, but mules are sterile. Zebras aren't interfertile with either.

ACME Content Substitute
I am still pretty swamped with cramming for exams, papers and working at UPS during December. I've already worked more overtime this week than I worked straight time last week (admittedly a short week).
In lieu of content here's yet more holiday cheesecake.

A friend who desires NO credit for this due to fear of passive aggressive trolling and other markers of 'tolerance' sends me this link...
The Best of Social Justice is a Tumbler blog compiled by a brave or self flagellating soul who compiles posts, tweets, and chats of various "social justice" crusaders.
It's hours of fun...or horror. But it can be useful too. For instance the fact that a prominent poster is named Lickingmuppets is one reason for me to carry a gun.
Yes actually and at ~01:00AM "Non-Ironic" meant something completely different to me than what it would to anyone with a passing familiarity with the English language. I thought about his post a few hours after posting this and thought "That'd be a good tie in" . And updated it.
Now 12 hours later I don't know what the HELL I was thinking with the "non"... andI can't for the life of me figure out any good way to tie it in to the real deal....so I've deleted the update.
(I must confess, when I read Don's post it did NOT strike me as satire...because these people often defy it. Only later when I saw the illustration at Diversity Chronicle did alarm bells go off)

Well, The Thought Was There
Bill Whittle, whose videos I link to frequently, does a very interesting podcast called The Stratosphere Lounge in which he takes questions and holds forth on a wide range of eclectic topics ranging from film to space travel to politics to history. He builds his shows around questions submitted via Facebook in a brief window before the podcast.
Well this weeks show included a question from a viewer about anime. Mr. Whittle expounded for a few minutes on why anime is not his cup of tea. This disquisition however, quickly dovetailed into glowing praise for someone who does not share his opinion on the medium. According to Mr Whittle, someone named 'Steven Den Beste' is brilliant, insightful, inspiring and ALWAYS RIGHT. Mr. Whittle spent several minutes talking about how important Mr. Den Beste's USS Clueless was in the early days of the blogosphere and what a joy it is to read the editorials Steven still occasionally does. After this genuinely heartfelt tribute, Whittle directed his anime attuned listeners to Mr. Den Beste's "Anime Manga...HENTAI..That's the word I'm looking for.. Hentai blog Chizumatic"
....because Steven Den Beste is just the cat's meow and if you're into that hentai stuff Chizumatic is where to find it!
While Mr. Whittle did mention as an aside that he wasn't entirely clear on the meanings of Manga, Anime & Hentai, I suspect that Steven's incoming search terms will be amusing for a bit.
UPDATE: Just to clarify: Hentai is pr0n. Chizumatic is not a hentai blog. The caption is in jest..

The Stratosphere Lounge is one of the few things that might entice me to set up enough shell stuff to create a Facebook account.
I can't remember where I went first when I started following blogs, but Eject^3 was a big one early on. It's a shame what it has turned into through neglect. (Tens of thousands of SEO "comments")

Good grief. He had a VASTLY worse run-in with Annies theologist than I did. Damn cultists. Fortunately he's alive and recovering, but its looking to be a long road.
I, for now, work in a State-run hospital, and things such as these are much more common than most folks know.

His last post was 13 days ago
and indicated that he had taken a turn for the worse after his back surgery and been readmitted
to the hospital. I tried E-mailing him but the messages bounce back
with the error message that his mailbox is full.

Eh, it's not the end of the world. Lots of advances in microsurgery, and it's almost outpatient. Sounds like they plan to keep me around for a bit for observation, but the doc says I should be back at work in a week or two after the surgery. He's one of the top ten neurosurgeons in the country.
The real pain is that I was getting established in a new section and role post-stroke (the measures I took to ensure stress reduction at work were swift, effective, and left bruises), and now this. My plans involved working 5-10 more years and at least one more promotion. Instead I'm burning all my vacation and sick time, then taking unpaid leave. Not good.
