Battening Down

This close in the forecasts are generally pretty accurate. Radio says the eye is likely to cross over us at Category 2. The geometry of the storm is such that I expect a LOT of water to be forced into the Chesapeake Bay. This may be as bad as Isabel. I certainly do not expect to have power (or water) for several days after Saturday.

If you are on the Outer Banks or the Eastern Shore you need to be somewhere else very quickly.

ODU's Classes start Monday (in theory) so students are incoming right now. I just received an E-mail that ODU is shutting down the dorms. This will be awkward for the incoming students as some will arrive with nowhere to stay and a hurricane on the way.

That thing has been sitting over the Bahamas for at least a full day. Any reports on how bad the damage is? I haven't seen any reports at all.

2 Remember....Ike was Cat 2 (although the surge was equal to a cat 4.)  Watch yourself, and like the man said, lay in water supplies.

The good news is it will be moving pretty fast and accelerating by then, reducing the time it will spend doing damage.

3 I can tell you that the ODU Bookstores won't reopen until Tuesday, but I'm unaware of when they're actually closing up shop.

I'm amazed that they're closing the dorms before the kids can get in... unless they've flat out said "Don't come, we won't be responsible."?

The latest predictions are trending somewhat more westward. The one I just saw looks like the eye passes right over you.

Good luck! Be safe.
