2 Internet says that 181 is Hyuga, Ise should be 182.

3 I'm making a wild-assed guess that "(H)" means it's a helicoptor carrier? And that's the reason for the flat deck and the tower being off to the side?

4 Exactly, Steven, except it's not a carrier.  The JMSDF is barred by the terms of surrender from WWII from ever operating aircraft carriers again.  Which is why it's officially an "escort." 

Kinda like the RN's Invincible-class carriers were called "through-deck cruisers" to sneak through budget committees.

5 I just found another picture of it. I bet you could operate Harriers off it. But then they really would be over the line.
