Technical Issues:

Well the new PC did NOT solve the issue I have posting in Mee.nu. The previous post took 5 attempts, I saved my text and kept reloading. Images seem to be a big part of the problem, I have about a 50% success rate with imageless posts as opposed to 20% or less with illustrated posts.

The new PC DID enable me to stream non-retro games again. Zomboid, and Genshin (the latter of which I could not even play on the iMac) run great. However, the PC version of FF14 seems to want me to start at the beginning again and loose my 18 months of progress. My iMac character is still on file with Square Enix, so I hope to resolve this issue tomorrow when their help staff is back from holiday. Otherwise I'll be replaying A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood. Which would be....well...reruns.

My new computer desk has arrived.

However, If I can't resolve the posting issues (which I thought were Mac related) I'll likely have to switch blog hosts (which I DON'T want to do....I like Mee.nu and like Pixy) .

In any event. We'll be resuming regular streams Thursday. I might do a late stream this evening if I can get a few things taken care of in the next 3 hours.

(Update: This is the first post in months that posted on the first try!)

Oh

The router finally did the thing in front of Verizon customer service.

WELL....That WOULD explain the problem we are having with lagging at awkward moments during games. (I'm paying for 1 G up AND down....but I guess one can't expect much in a curry mine).  This has been an intermittent issue for 2 months that has made even the PS2 games unwatchable at times.

Verizon is sending me a new router, it should be here in a few days.

I'm going to cancel streams for the rest of the week.

Pending the arrival of the router, we will tentatively hit the ground running next week at twitch.tv/brickmuppet.

TRYING OUT KICK.COM

KICK.COM is a new streaming network that seems to be much more friendly to individual streamers than Twitch...whose recent TOS fiasco has got a lot of streamers very nervous. Kick is currently in beta but it does have the capability to stream and seems to work fine with few bugs. These are mostly very minor streamer interface related things and not at all apparent to viewers

Well.....

My internet alter ego had a short test stream last night that worked OK. Reviewing the V.O.D. it still looked OK from the viewer end. So I'm going to do a SURPRISE full-on stream tonight at 9PM/21:00 EST /01:00 UTC over on https://kick.com/BRICKMUPPET We will be grinding in the item world of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness while chatting and spamming ALL 30 of my emotes. (Twitch currently lets me use 5)
Stop by, say 'Hi!" and check out  Kick.com.

We. Be. BLOGGIN'!

So I woke up late this morning. Very, very late.

It's actually 13:21 EST.
I've got some errands to run before I stream at 18:00, but before I ran out the door in a mad tizzy I checked my E-mails.
And there in my gmail account vying for attention with all the "5.56mm ammo IN STOCK" spam was a message from the blogfather, the Antipodean of awesomeness, the man himself, Pixy Misa.

"The problem with the blog is fixed.  Please return my pet turtles unharmed."

So before I run out into the world, let's test this to see if it works.

Some current event commentary

Update:
Yep it looks like it's working again.
Thanks Pixy.

P.S.
They are in the pup tent set up on the road 5 miles east of your house in a ventilated box marked "DANGER SALMONELLA"

Mission Accomplished

The last brown truck has left the building.

All the presents are out.

The blog won't let me publish images, and I'm still too tired and busy to type.

But the upcoming week's schedule is.....sane.

Stay tuned.

The blog is back.

On Vacation

In celebration of having written a long post that did not evaporate when I hit publish, I'm going south for a few days to visit my 80 year old parents who have no computer and no internet beyond the potential for dial-up offered by their land line.

Blogging will resume this weekend and the next stream on the Twitch channel will be Friday night.

We'll begin by watching some silent DINOSAUR movies! The short surviving clip from The Ghost of Slumber Mountain ( 1918 )...(the very first live-action film featuring dinosaurs!) will be followed by the classic 1925 adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's novel The Lost World

Since those films together are less than 2 hours long, and our Friday streams are scheduled to be at least 4 hours, we will follow the  thunder lizards with a few hours of adventuring in Eorzea with the superbly entertaining MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 Online

Come by and join us for the fun this Friday, August 5th, at 9:00PM EDT / 1:00AM UTC at twitch.tv/brickmuppet !

************

Next Monday at 6:00pm EDT / 10:00pm UTC we will continue last night's fighting and grilling with the quirky Metroidvania cooking game Dungeon Munchies

There are other games in prospect, pending the arrival of some equipment so stay tuned!

While the channel still isn't monetized and thus we can't use our emotes in the channel just yet, we are prepared for that eventual contingency as the channel has just acquired a fully operational...wiggly!

Streaming Update

While suffering from COVID, we here at Brickmuppet Blog endured some power failures, internet connectivity issues, and what I assume was a drop bear infestation. However, Wednesday, both power and internet were working and I did a short, unscripted test stream.

There is still an awful lot of scuff, particularly audio issues at the beginning, and the stream was completely unscripted (being just a test) but this was the first stream where stuff mostly worked.

Heh, "Mostly"
He still can't get his PNG to work right, Steam is not linking up to his Twitch, at all, he hasn't received his HDMI capture equipment yet and there is a reverb in his headphones that causes him to sound like a drunk cretin at points.

Hush.

Despite that, I finally got my streaming software (OBS) to work with my Mac to the point that I could do a 'Just Chatting' stream. One of my plans for the channel is to at least once a week do some silent movies, 'cause if it's pre-1928, it's usually DMCA free. (There are exceptions but those are fairly easy to find). There is a big enough backlog of decent silents to last at least two years.

I had 5 people in chat at one point, at least one of whom was not a bot.

"It's a small victory, but I'll take it."

Actual premier with Obligatory Power-Point is set for June 11. If the vidya gaming setup still isn't working by then we'll do a just chatting/movie stream anyway.

On the Road Again

I've got to run 300 miles south for several days to attend to some family matters. There's little connectivity in the swamp, so posting will be even more diffident.

As compensation, here is a young lady who is simultaneously cute as a button and someone you probably do NOT want to get on the wrong side of.

The cute girl with the fuzzy pets is from a light novel by Schuld which  was illustrated by the awesome Lansane, who, in turn, you can directly support via Fanbox or SKEB.

SENPAI NOTICED ME!!!

"Banned in Boston" used to be a selling point for books.

As a Z-list blogger of diffident posting frequency such PR gold is closed to me.

Oh wait.

According to commenter MadRocketScientist:

Your blog, and possibly all of mee.nu is now banned by T-mobiles censorship application (which I need to figure out how to disable.)

Was it downvoting communism or a picture of an empty vaccine line?

"Hey girls! T-Mobile says The Brickmuppet's a...Bad Boi! Let's check him out!"

Hey ladies. Yeah. I'm...dangerous

Hahahaha! I have arrived! No doubt I've said SOMETHING too close to the truth.

The omnipotent, ubiquitous "They" do not want people to hear me.

So come one, come all, to read that which is FORBIDDEN

Now to take advantage of this public relations coup. I must think of something forbidden to write.

Or anything to write really.

It ought not be hard. I am, after all, quite radical.

UPDATE:  I finally got some people who have T-Mobile to look into this and it IS now blocked by T-Mobile's Web Guard parental filtering software.

Technical Difficulties

I think Mee.nu is under DDOS attack.

Verizon, my service provider, has been intermittently being rather diffident in quality, speed and bandwidth for a few days. Local storms may be to blame.

On a completely different note, it is good to learn where great minds got their inspiration.

Blogging Best Practices

One of the best secrets of the big-brained-pro-bloggers is to actually make sure one's post published on the date it was supposed to and isn't still in "draft" 5 days later for some reason.

And 3-D is the wave of the future!

From Mojave to Big Sur

...is a heck of a road trip but, to my astonishment not a great deal of trouble with regard to Mac operating systems.

I've judiciously avoided MAC updates after the Catalina fiasco last year, but now, as I try to get my Twitch channel up and running and do video editing,  I find I need the latest OS to run the associated software.

Despite my trepidation, the update went quite smoothly. I purchased my iMac in August of 2019 and went from Mojave to the new Big Sur with no real problem.

In stark contrast to the Catalina fiasco, almost everything works.

There is an intermittent bug with the Apple Mail application not wanting to autoload occasionally. This affects me not at all, as I hardly use that app ever, linking directly into my mail accounts. On the rare occasions that it doesn't load it can be manually started.

Some older applications no longer work. I'll need to get updates for them no doubt.

The most relevant issue for me is that video files of most types no longer display thumbnails when browsing through finder. VLC works fine, but .WEBMs don't.

That's it. That's the extent of the bugs so far.

Internet works fine.

The new OS is not turning my spreadsheets into pixel salads, or locking my computer up and slowing everything down a crawl.

The interface changes seem to be an actual improvement as well.

I'm not seeing any real problems aside from the most minor issues.  The Big Sur upgrade seems to be a throwback those halcyon days of yesteryear when Apple was a hardware company that produced rock solid software for its products rather than a malware company that diffidently produces some widgets.

It's been a whole week, and I'm honestly still waiting for the hammer to fall.

All That and a Bowl of Grits

On my iMac, for browsers, I've got Safari, Opera, New Moon (A mysterious Macintosh fork of Pale Moon), Epic, and Vivaldi. All have good and bad points. Now I've loaded Brave and it is better than the lot of them. It's closest to Epic in concept and execution, being a "privacy browser" based on Chrome, but it seems rather more polished and is independently verified to be about as private as advertised.  I'm not sure, but I assume given that last fact that Brave would also get maximum utility out of one's VPN.

Anyway, I'm very pleased with it. The only thing it lacks is a cute personification avatar. But we can rest assured that when it comes, it'll likely be a catgirl.

UPDATE:
My curiosity has out argued my skepticism so I've tentatively activated the Brave Rewards option and will keep you appraised.
UPDATE 2: Well. THAT'S annoying.

State of the Blog

Christmas is over and my holiday in the land of no internet has passed as well so the months long dry spell is coming to an end.

One of my New Years resolutions is to do more of the long-form posts, more media reviews and stuff. I also got two Bitchute Channels, currently only one is activated and consists of a few migrated videos and travel movies. Eventually, I'd like to do a channel complementing the blog but I need more equipment for that.

I've re-discovered that I'm not interested in microblogging.

Anyway, here's some imaginary 2-d lady summing up the last two months of the blog's output.
